Biography
Ileen Loosle Barlow, a mother of ten children, was born in a small farming community in Northern Utah. She attended Utah State University where she met and married Elwood Barlow. She worked as a secretary while her husband finished his engineering degree. They lived in California for ten years before moving to Oregon in 1976. Elwood and Ileen enjoyed 32 years of marriage before Elwood passed away in 1996 of lymphoma. Ileen, a two-time cancer survivor herself, entered the workforce to support her family while her husband was sick. She has now worked at Hewlett Packard in Corvallis, Oregon for the past 18 years.
Having served in many positions in her church and community, Ileen most enjoys teaching and working with teenagers. Ileen has taught piano and organ lessons over the years; most of her children had her as their first piano teacher. The Barlow homestead, with its large barn, is often the gathering place for family, friends and community groups for square dances, salmon bakes and other events. In addition to her ten children, nine of whom are still living, Ileen also has 20 grandchildren. Her greatest joy is the gathering of her children and their families.
