Our November meeting will be featuring Evelin Turner a professional organizer. We will have a question and answer session after, so bring your questions about organizing.

Meeting will be held on November 12th, at 7:30 pm, with a pre-meeting social from 7:00-7:30 pm.

The meeting will be at the Provo Library in room 301, across from the ballroom on the third floor.

LaDawn Jacob’s spoke to us in Ingrid Sorensen’s backyard. She was wonderful. We all appreciated her expert advice with parenting and mothering. Her examples and suggestions were helpful and encouraging to us mothers in the midst of parenting. Thank You LaDawn for your example and words of advice for all of us.

This meeting was superb. Many wonderful points were stated to remember and apply to our lives.

Ingrid Sorensen taught us the first chapter in Glen Latham’s book of Positive Parenting. It was good to start over in the book to remind us the reasons for positive parenting. She mentioned three themes that Glen states throughout the book. They are 1. Go out of ones way to parent with positive interactions. 2. Ignore inconsequential behavior. 3. A parents ultimate responsibility is to teach appropriate behavior.

Jenet Jacob Erickson then spoke to us on her topic of –“Strengthening Motherhood: A New View of the Profound Meaning in the Mundane.” She mentioned that motherhood is a “sacred role.” She mentioned that motherhood teaches us to love, to reach out, and minister. We discussed points of what makes mothering hard, unique challenges of our day, and the significance of motherhood.

She also gave key points of why family work matters.

1. Family work links people.
2. They offer the greatest possibilities for nurturing close relationships and forging family ties.
3. Working side by side tends to dissolve feelings of hierarchy making it easier for children to discuss topics of concern with their parents.
4. We often think of household work as menial…yet, because it is menial even the smallest child can make a meaningful contribution.
5.  The most ordinary chores can become daily rituals of family love and belonging.
6. Family work is  humbling work, helping us to acknowledge our unavoidable interdependence; encouraging us to sacrifice “self” for the sake of the whole.

There will be no July meeting, because of holidays and summer time.   Meetings will resume on August 13, 2009.  Also mark your calendars for our annual reunion on September 10, 2009. Details of both meetings will be blogged at a later date. Enjoy your summer and have a great and safe July.

Here are a few tips on keeping your family safe during the summer:

1. Most child accidents are preventable with adult supervision.

2. Use sunscreen when outside on a sunny day and a safe bug repellent in evening hours.

3. Follow city restrictions and safety precautions when using fireworks.

Jenny Ahlstrom came and spoke to us about her new website in development. She explained how her website will help mothers with questions based on their circumstances. Then Ingrid Sorensen gave her monthly lesson from “The Power of Positive Parenting” by Glen Latham. The lesson was on how to deal with children who Lie/Steal. Karmel did video of  the discussion by Jenny and Ingrid.  At the end of the meeting, we discussed financial advice.
