September Meeting with Paula Fellingham

We had a great time with our September chapter meeting. It was help in Karmel’s beautiful back yard, with apple trees and peach trees loaded with fruit. We had fun roasting marshmallows and making s’mores as we chatted and visited before the meeting. There were about 50 amazing mothers there which was so exciting. Some familiar faces, some we hadn’t seen in a while, and some new faces.

After a few announcements, and raffle drawings, we got to hear from the amazing Paula Fellingham. (Check out her website at www.paulafellingham.com). She is a world renowned speaker and author who so graciously donated her time and skills to come speak to us. Here are a few highlights of her presentation. “Believe It, Become It”:

  • Believe that you can overcome every hurdle and barrier in your life.
  • By directing your thoughts in positive ways, you can create positive change in your life.
  • You and your children will become the kind of people that you tell them they are.
  • Focus on the present and the future
  • Don’t blame someone else for your future
  • What beliefs are you hanging on to that you need to change?
  • Skills to create positive change: label a negative thought, replace it, and focus forward
  • Ignore negative thoughts, “blow out the match”
  • When you respond to others in a negative way, they have power over you.
  • Happiness comes from within
  • Gratitude makes us happy

Thank you Paula for not only sharing your message with us, but for giving each person who came a free copy of her book “Believe It, Become It”. She also generously e-mailed all of us a copy of her presentation since she didn’t have time to share all of it. It is included in the files section on this blog.

We had another great evening of recommitting ourselves to being the best women and mothers we can be. Thanks to everyone who was there. Hope to see you next month.

Utah Valley Chapter Nominee for Young Mother of the Year announced

At our September meeting, Ingrid Sorensen, our current Utah Young Mother of the Year, introduced our chapter’s nominee for Utah Young Mother of the Year 2009. This year’s (2009) nominee is Danielle Kennington, our chapter’s Vice President.

Danielle is the mother of one beautiful, energetic 3-year old. She and her husband, Matt, have been married for 15 years. They adopted their daughter when she was a newborn and are hoping to add another child to their family through adoption.
